Huaraz, Peru's Chamonix

We return to the mountains and cross the impressive Cañon del Pato, a winding track wedged between the Cordillera Blanca and Cordillera Negra. At the most narrow canyon, only a dozen yards separated the two Cordillera! An impressive journey begins in the desert, is committed towards the mountains through valleys arid collected over each other. Along the way, many mines and ghost towns, almost a western decor. The track is barely wider than the bus that connects the bridges that creak crossings, while at a raging river. Legend is that the route has the highest number of tunnels in Peru, more than 40 to less than 100 km. Finally we come to the green plateaus at the foot of the most beautiful glaciers in the region!
After 8 hours by bus (to go just over 250 km), we arrived safely in Huaraz and are hosted by Ivan couchsurfer friend. Once settled at home, we spend our first day we réacclimater because we've still go from 0 to 3000 meters above sea level, and to identify any areas of flight. We climb in the morning at El Pinar viewpoint, where the magnificent point view on the peaks of the Cordillera Blanca us a glimpse of beautiful possibilities of flight. We also find the Huascaran, Peru's highest peak height of 6768 meters. We then descend into town to meet a local trekking agency recommended by Manu, who advises us to make a flight in the Cordillera Negra, with a beautiful view over the nevados. We return finally to Ivan, who spotted two flights-hikes, and handle the alarm for 5 am determined to send into the air in this spectacular landscape.
Unfortunately, although we expected on landing in the region is winter on the mountains of Peru and thunderstorms are numerous. The very next day, the sky becomes clogged and almost continuous rain. We still remain a few days in hopes of finding a niche, and we deal with other activities that offer the region. Thus we enjoy a morning cloud, but still a little drier than usual to make the trek from Lake Churup. At the foot of the glacier of the same name, the glacial lake is located 4450 meters above sea level. Like an emerald set in the rock, the waters change color throughout the day and reflect the surrounding peaks. The atmosphere is magical, especially after these few hours of walking the last mile of which are quite steep. Mathieu did not long resist also to call swimming! A little too fresh, there will however not long paddle, especially as the mist rises and the storm approach. We descend the rain but happy with our trip.
On any other kind, the best way we found to deal despite the rain is going to the baths of Monterrey. Pools filled by hot springs at 49 °, it appears that their waters are good for health ... In any case, it's good for the head, then pourquoi s'en private? Mais
s'améliore the météo ne pas nous et à tourner commençons in rond. L'intérêt du voyage Etant good s'ennuyer ne jamais, il est temps pour nous of Huaraz quitter et de revenir au soleil sur la côte.

We stayed a few days but hoping to get a chance, and we deal with other activities offered by the region. This is how we take advantage of a cloudy morning but a little drier than usual to make the trek to the lake Churup. At the foot of Glacier, the glacial lake is located at 4450 meters altitude. As an emerald studded on the rock, the waters change color throughout the day and reflect the surrounding peaks. But water is a bit too cold so I did not stay much time swimming, even more so when the mist rises and the storm approaches. Down again in the rain but pleased with our trip.
In another genre, the best way we found to deal despite the rain is going to the baths of Monterrey. Pools fed by hot springs (49 ° C), states that its waters are good for health in any case is good for morale, then why deprive that?
But the weather does not improve, and we began to spin. The interest of the trip is either not ever get bored, then it's time to leave and return to Huaraz sun on the coast.

How Much Money Can I Get For Recycling

Trujillo, a city of eternal spring

The heat outside is oppressive, almost unbearable, and now we're in the largest cities such oases Asked middle of nowhere. Surrounded by greenery, irrigation works wonders and can even grow rice in the desert!
We quickly understand that Peru is on the campaign trail because everywhere you look, whether on the slightest bit of wall or a rock, there are slogans and logos of the various parties policies. When there is enough room, the paintings even explain how to vote with, illiteracy requires, drawings support! Funny Surround ...
align ourselves finally Trujillo on the north coast of Peru, located a few kilometers from the Pacific Ocean. The center retains many traces of its colonial past, many buildings clearly show their European influence, but the main interest of the city lies in its two main archaeological Chan Chan, the largest adobe citadel of the ancient world and the Huaca del Sol and Luna, adobe pyramids. The
adobe clay that is mixed with water and a small amount of chopped straw or other binder, can be formed into bricks dried in the sun. It was the construction material used by pre-Columbian civilizations, here the "Chimu" and "Ugly."
The Chimu citadel of Chan Chan, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986, covers over 20 square kilometers. Therefore impossible to visit all, especially since a large proportion is now being restored. But the complex is accessible Nik Year, and we discover in the middle of its walls the importance of water and the ocean, and worship him who made the Chimu culture. Everywhere, high reliefs represent different species of marine animals in the region: fish, pelicans ... but the waves and fishing nets. Unfortunately, there are only few original performances as many have been destroyed due to heavy rains and flooding caused by the weather phenomenon El Niño on the Peruvian coast. Declared endangered heritage, Chan Chan may have disappeared in recent decades due to erosion, so the emphasis is now placed on the preservation and reconstruction of the site, even though searches continue !
A few miles away on the Pacific, lies the fishing port of Huanchaco, which also serves as a seaside resort for the people of Trujillo. We put our bags for a few days to enjoy a little quiet (here no horn or alarm sounding continuously) and the weather. In this small village that reminds us a bit Capbreton, with its pier and surfers, life moves at idle and while "Trujillanos" land mass the weekend, the atmosphere is very relaxed. The police is patrolling up listening to reggae all the way into their patrol car, and many hippies strolling on the beach artisinat selling them. Here, fishermen out at sea with their boats traditional "los caballitos totora", used for over 1000 years. Made Totora, a kind of reed local, their particular form found at the front and flat and enlarged at the rear is distinguished from all other boats.
Dominated by a small cliff, the place seems very nice to fly and do some soaring, but the wind is not strong enough during our stay and we will not get more than one minute flight!

Our No menos tocar diferentes of 4 nozzles and 26 hours of way out of Ecuador and reach Trujillo, Peru's our first step. But the advantage of those long bus journeys is to enjoy the extraordinary landscapes are facing, and so after passing the border at night, we woke up in the desert, impressed by this new environment. Après 8 heures où l'on bus traverse des paysages miscellaneous arrivons enfin à nous à la nuit tombée Basin. Plupart des autres comme the great villes équatoriennes the nightlife is very calm, almost too much, and it is difficult to find a place to eat. However, although the streets are deserted, the atmosphere seems much more calm and reassuring and Quito.
The weather being cloudy in the region, we take the opportunity to explore the city and its inhabitants. A well-preserved Colonial historic center of Cuenca also has got the status of cultural heritage of mankind, and we quickly understand why. The streets are picturesque and the many markets of all types that bloom all over the city give it an authentic atmosphere. It is good to stroll the streets or along the river, admiring the colonial architecture and the life that unfolds peacefully. Few tourists in town, as also its center there is not much to visit, but that's just what we like because it is pleasant to walk without being constantly alpaguer for tourist services, such as c ' was the case in Baños. The people are friendly and we spend a pleasant time to stroll through the markets. Unaccustomed to foreigners, "Señor" We are delighted to welcome their booths and show us or give us taste their products. This is an opportunity for us to discover lots of new fruits and vegetables, unknown in our latitudes, and try some local delicacies like Chicharron (skin and grilled pork rind, very light and digestible ...), or the delicious nougat Local-based milk jam and filled with peanuts. We can also prepare teas finally true with real plants, not bags, on the advice of a benevolent señora.
But despite this excellent experience we leave the city after a few days, driven by bad weather prevents us from flying into the surrounding villages. We then decide of Reprendre the rally route will désert et sans trop attendre peruvian.

En effet, depuis qu'il s'est reveille, he Tungurahua est dans un processus d'eruption constant avec des alternance of periods activity and quiet, and it still caused plenty of damage in recent months. Fortunately, we arrived, the mountain calmed down and life goes on peacefully in Baños. Nevertheless, the recommendations and precautions in case of sudden evacuation are posted everywhere and the legacy of previous lava flows are still visible, but people do not seem concerned, despite the smoke coming out continuously from the crater.
As its name suggests, Baños is a city bathroom where there are several small spas and the surroundings are full of cool waterfalls and hot springs ... But it's just if we visit the town, which overlooks the waterfall and the main bathroom, we do not even take the time to enjoy the paradise for tourists that found in the region as possible flights in the area are numerous.
Upon our arrival, we meet Edgar, director of the local paragliding school and a member of CAP (Paragliding Club Ambato). Very happy to see us, he welcomes us warmly and invites us to fly with him and his students the next day in the nearby town of Potato (no it is not a joke!). Risen at dawn, we leave Thus for Banos thirty minute drive in a patrol vehicle of the National Police, with large reinforcements lights and siren, thanks to high-ranking officer Edgar has for student!
After waiting several hours as the clouds parted, we finally assemble Deco Mundug. Small site overlooking Patate, it does not offer extraordinary opportunities for theft but offers a unique perspective on Tungurahua and Chimborazo, Ecuador's highest peak. We take off after the students in the late morning and conditions are becoming a bit too strong for this site. After playing a few in the turbulent momentum begins to develop along the ridge, we must fly Potato and undergo strong wind in the valley to try to reach atterro. Lily will also be entitled to a vachage in good and due form, with the slope and put in sailing in the bushes.
The end of the day takes place at Niton, other decoration located on the opposite side of the valley. Excellent site dynamics, we must first wait until the wind calms down to 25 km / h to take off and play a good hour in the laminar wind, which also serves as the decor of atterro official!
We then go Mundug to return the next day and participate in the first tournament of the season, organized by the PAC on the occasion of the feast of potato. The site does not offer huge opportunities for theft, it is actually a precision landing competition. Organizers will not fail, throughout the day, reminds the international nature of the event through the participation of both French. We also tried to best defend the colors of our country, with Lily who wins a third place and Matt who finished seventh ... twenty participants, it is not already evil! Awards with a bang on the village square, we will be entitled to nice medals and trophies are never arrived, the club promises to keep one of Lily for the day when we return!

Flights Baños, the competition and the dynamics of Potato Niton.

The official results of the competition are on the site of Paragliding Club Ambato, even though Matthew was robbed of his 7th place!

Continuamos nuestro camino sobre la Avenida de los Volcanes y llegamos a Baños, al pie del Volcán Tungurahua. Nestled in a circus, on a small plateau overlooking a canyon, the city lives under constant threat of eruptions since 1999, when reactivation of the volcano. In fact, since he awoke the Tungurahua is erupting in a process of constant alternating periods of activity and quiet, and caused some damage in recent months. Fortunately, when we arrived, the mountain had Calmasan and life flows peacefully in Bath. However, the recommendations and precautions in case of sudden evacuation are everywhere and the aftermath of previous lava flows are still very visible, but the population does not seem to worry Despite the smoke rising continuously from the crater.
Just as its name implies, Bath is a spa city where several small spas, and bursting around frozen waterfalls and hot springs ... But just visited the city, the waterfall that dominates and master baths, why not take the time to enjoy paradise for tourists such as the possibility of flying in the vicinity are numerous. Newcomers
, met Edgar, director of the local school and member of the PAC (Paragliding Club Ambato). Very happy to see us, welcomes us warmly and invites us to fly with him and his students the next day in the nearby town of Patate. Woke up early Bath and went for a thirty minute walk in a patrol vehicle of the National Police, a large reinforcements rotating beacon and siren, thanks to the officers and students is Edgar!
After waiting a few hours the clouds break, finally got on the launch of Mundug. Overlooking the small town of Patate, it offers extraordinary possibilities for flight but offers a vantage point on the Tungurahua and Chimborazo, Ecuador's highest summit. We took off after the students late in the morning and the conditions begin to be a bit strong for this site. Having played a bit of a turbulent dynamic begins to put along the ridge, we fly Patate and suffer the strong wind in the valley to try to reach the aterrizadero. Lily will touch land on the slope, with the candle in the bushes.
Niton Terminareños the day, another launch located on the opposite side of the valley. Excellent site dynamics, we must first wait for the winds to weaken to about 25 km / h to take off and play a good hour in the laminar wind, where the official launch is also aterrizadero!
Then we met to re Mundug the next day, and participate in the first tournament of the season, organized by the PAC on the occasion of the feast of Patate. By not offering huge potential site cross flight, it will be made of a precision landing competition. The organizers will not, throughout the day, thanks for participating. Otherwise try to defend as best as possible the colors of our tray, which ends with Lily and Matthew third place just seventh!
distribution of prizes in the town square, where we give medals and trophies that have never arrived, but the club promises to keep the Lily for the day again!
