It took us quite some time before daring to swim often turquoise waters of the Omani coast. With children, the task proved somewhat complex at times. Especially when the youngest began to want to walk alone at 6 months.
But in turn, we braved our terror of crossing two or three sea monsters, and we discovered this fascinating world and suspicion.


But first, our curiosity had been sharpened by the many species of fish spread out on the floor in various fish souks.
The first one we visited suffered left us a great olfactory. Sour horn of the Arabian Peninsula in late September, 11 am, midday sun, 40 ° C in the shade, fish caught at night (at best), heads and fins, gills and viscera pushed into a corner, cats salivating stray a few yards ... seeking in our memories, the smell unbearable comeback ...

Our little Parisian fishmongers pose shelled prey on beds of ice, while there at best, is on a mat to 2 rials, plastic braided. While we appreciate the little breeze that comes from the sea and airing things a little. She is sorely lacking in the souks of fish inland villages.

To see what happens under water, a little way out of Muscat, one finds a quiet little fishing port, or you go into tourist areas (just out of 4x4 or the sightseeing bus, the children offer the price of the trip by motor boat). All fish seen in the souk are likely to be there, living in a coral reef. It's beautiful, the colors are gorgeous. Moray eels, rays and sea snakes can make themselves very discreet.
